A Stallion Free and Wild edition by John Anderson Literature Fiction eBooks

In the 1800's, Indian tribes were forced off the plains and onto reservations. Their horses killed or left to run wild, growing into great herds. A new breed of cowboy, the Mustang Hunter was born. It was at this time that Leif Nelson, an immigrant from Norway, arrived to live with his Uncle Martin in Montana. Leif first set eyes on the beautiful stallion while riding the lonely prairie. He witnesses him fight a grey stallion to the death for his mustang mares. He names the stallion Thor.
The tale of this stallion in Montana spreads as riders from all corners of the land come with their best horses. They return defeated, covered with Musselshell dust, swearing that the white stallion cannot be caught.
A Blackfoot hunting party captures Leif while he is hunting Thor. Rescued by a rancher, he falls in love with his daughter, Sarna. Later he befriends a loner, Antone Baine, who introduces Leif to his horse, Big Red.
This is a story of mustangs, love and death. You must read this tale for the exciting finish. Even the Blackfoot braves shake their heads for what they witness and raise their lances to the sky, chanting to the Great Spirit.

I enjoyed this book. It is rich in its description of the nature and the land. The author portrays his love for Montana in his word pictures of the Snowy Mountains and the Mussellshell River area in the state. This is woven seamlessly into the narrative which evokes a "you are there" feeling. While his characters and the era are authentically drawn, it is in my view, primarily the story of Leif Nelson. He is a man who is new to America and the West and who finds a place for himself there.Thor, the horse in the title, is threaded masterly throughout the story. He is a magnificent animal that inspires many mustang hunters as he continues to evade capture. But it is also a love story between a man and a woman and a man and a horse.
I found the book to be a page-turner from the beginning to the poignant end.

A Stallion Free and Wild edition by John Anderson Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Easy read so-so story. A lot of errors that should drive any horseman nuts. Not a bad concept but needs another rewrite or two.
This was such a beautiful story. Although sad at times it was very realistic and reminded me of the Louis L'Amour books I used to read. Thank you for sharing.
Join Leif Nelson on his great adventure through the American north country in the 1800's. He'll find family, friends, foes, horses, Indians and a pretty woman during his hunt to capture and tame the fastest stallion ever known. On his quest, he meets danger, love and death. It's a pleasant story with a likewise ending.
Thor was never to be corralled, he and Big Red would forever be free to manage the many mustangs roaming the Musselsheels.
This is a good western novel about a white stallion and how everyone for miles around tried to capture him. When our hero finally does capture him he turns him loose. You have to use the term capture loosely in this case as our hero never brought the stallion to a stop, never had him under control. But it is a good story and projects a good picture of th e west during the time period being depicted. All in all a good read.
I enjoyed the story. Have always enjoyed horse/western stories and that hasn't changed even at my advanced age of 77. Hardships and sad endings are realistic for that time period. I especially loved the way this story ended. Not going to give it away here, but it left me with a good feeling and I was glad I read it. Thank you Mr. Anderson for sharing your stories. Another reason why I love my is that I discover new authors.
I thought this was a good book. The author did a really good job of show you a vision of what Montana was like in the 1800's. He had a way with explaining the land and the wild horse herds . Their was the romance of a once in a lifetime love. The story keep me interested to the end. It is worth your time to read this book.
